Motivation in Montana-National Guard Style

This past weekend I had the pleasure of working with a great group of students in Helena, Montana. The students were the children of the Montana National Guard. This was the first time that I have had the pleasure of working with students that have this unique background. The weekend started on Friday night with games and goal setting exercises as well as an activity that asked the students to look within themselves. We worked on problem solving, communications, goals, team work, community and the ability to stick to their goals and be able to push forward at times of struggle. The students responded to the activities with enthusiasm and energy. I later had the opportunity to address and work with their parents on Sunday. Funny the parents acted just as silly as the kids did…even the ones in uniform. It was great to see the “lights” in the eyes of the students and parents gleam with energy and hope this weekend. They are some of the unsung heroes of our nation , the families behind our servicemen..especially those that are deployed overseas. They are truly strong.

I must say that working with the Youth Programs of Montana National Guard was an extreme pleasure and I look forward to working with them again.

This was an awesome weekend. Thank you Sara Cease and Julie North and the students of the Montana National Guard Youth Symposium.

Turning up the Motivation From the Inside Out — Motivation Comes From Within

Keeping yourself motivated as you work towards your goal can be challenging. You may find it hard to stay positive. If you find yourself stuck in a rut, there are some tried and true methods to stay pumped up and keep the momentum going. Remember motivation — positive and negative –comes from within. So take a deep breath, relax, and focus on the positive.

Reevaluate your plan of action, including your timeline. Look at your goal as a whole, and then break it down to “bite-size” pieces. Having a smaller piece of the larger task to work on and complete can create a large sense of accomplishment and rekindle your motivation.

Evaluate your obstacles. What is standing in your way? Think about other obstacles that you’ve already faced and overcome. You can get past these, too.

Reach out to a friend for advice and encouragement. Pray for guidance and strength. Locate a book of inspirational quotes, poems or short stories. Find a movie with a positive, uplifting storyline. Listen to upbeat, toe-tapping music – and play it loud.

Look for a distraction. Work on a hobby to channel your creative side. Many times using the “fun” side of your brain may spark your confidence.

If you do better to regroup in quiet, try going for a walk, or find a quiet place to reflect on your past successes. Another great idea is to envision your current project in its completed form. Imagine how successful you will feel when you can add this venture to your list of accomplishments!

Sometimes just one of these actions will motivate you back to your path, and at within other times it may take a combination. Whatever you do, remember never give up. Try to get back in step with the same motivation and vigor you had at the beginning of your journey.

Motivation ….where does it go?

Over the past 20 years I have made a living giving motivational presentations to youth and young adults. Ispent mnay hours listening to the masters of my craft and reading volumes of books on leadership and motivation. Even having all of the insight and information I can honestly say that there are times when the motivator needs motivation. I have been able to find it in the places where I direct others. If you sometimes get stuck in a rut..here are the things I do to get pumped back up. I listen to a speaker, my favorite is Zig Ziglar that says things that I can connect to. I put on some the most upbeat , foot stomping music I own and play it loud. I call a friend that has nothing to gain from my success and seek advice or encouragement. I pray for guidance and strength. I sometimes find an old movie that gets the adrenaline going..if I can I play it loud too. Read a book with quotes…

Sometimes just one of the above suggestions works by themselves…there are other times when it takes a combination of them to get the job done. The most important thing is do something that brings your inner spirit back to life. Do the things that dig deep within yourself that pulls you out of the pit.

Just remember motivation comes from within..we just sometimes need to find the right ladder for it to reach the surface.

Well I am almost half-way through with the editing of the book. Doing mostly grammer stuff and rearranging stories. Not sure if I will need to add anything yet. I am really excited about this project. My facebook fan page has over 600 fans in less than a week..so I am really pleased. Soon my podcasts will be availiable on my website and then there is no telling what will come next.

Yes it has happened..I have finally gotten a fan page on facebook. You can sign up to be a fan on my website www.patrick-george.com.. I believe I am close to doing a blog…I have the initial equipment..its a matter of making it a go.

Well I am back..had to go to Birmingham today to see a doctor concerning my hip. Conclusion imflammed cartlidge and that earned me a shot and a date with Aleve 4 times a day. No Tae Kwon Do or gym for 2 weeks.
